Dear Mason Rugby Alumni,
Want to help build a proud GMU legacy? JOIN the Rugby Alumni association!
Last year marked the sixth decade of our club’s founding and in 2026 the club will celebrate the 60th anniversary of playing matches to represent George Mason University.
For years, a small group has worked behind the scenes to create the next key development in our club’s history: The official launch of the George Mason Rugby Alumni Association!
This group has been formed with the goal of cementing a legacy of rugby camaraderie and
competition on the GMU campus, by forging a strong network of past and present players.
To help achieve this goal, the alumni association is proud to share that we’ve officially gained
501(c)(3) status with the IRS to help us raise tax-deductible contributions that will support
quality coaching and player development.
A small cadre of alumni has worked and generously donated funds to restart the rugby club, which nearly died out during the Covid years.
Now, our association seeks to build an even bigger program with support of our alumni brothers.
This is an exciting time at GMU as the Old Glory DC franchise of Major League Rugby will make our alma mater their home for training and games!
This will provide us with the unique opportunity to elevate our sport at the school and in Northern Virginia.
We will seek your help in a few key areas:
Team building: Help us to bring our alumni home. We need volunteers to help our
network to grow, organize and plan fun events.

Fundraising: We all know cash will be needed to ensure success. We anticipate hosting
fundraisers on a regular basis to hire quality coaches and help bring a professional
approach to supporting student leaders.
Mentorship and Career Networking: Let’s create pathways to help GMU ruggers to
achieve when they join our alumni ranks.
Community Engagement: We need a strong alumni association to collaborate with the
GMU administration and the community at large to build the program and raise GMU
Rugby’s profile within the GMU, Northern Virginia, and broader rugby communities.
Remember, one simple act helps best: JOIN the George Mason Rugby Alumni Association!
Best regards,
